Here are some animations showing the location of igneous, metamorphic and cooling through time. The animations are based on
downloads of locality and attribute information from the DateView geochronology database. Note that, although the database contains in excess of
60,000 records (as at Dec 2007), not all of these have geographic coordinates. Also, note that the distribution of activity is also
a function of data coverage in the database and of the distribution of rocks available for sampling.
These animations are currently intended to illustrate data in the database and to facilitate checking of the data, but they also
help visualise where different types of activity were occuring through time.
